Computer Security

The City of Lakewood is a public entity.  It has custodial responsibilities for a significant and diverse amount of information, some of which is sensitive or private.  It holds business contracts with a broad range of public and private organizations.  It is the recipient of federal, state and other grants. It owns, maintains and operates significant critical infrastructure and services.  All of these facts place significant burdens on the City regarding the management and use of its extensive information systems resources.

Not least among these burdens are compliance requirements with many State and Federal laws and regulations. Prominent among these is the City’s commitment to ensure that its treatment and uses of “Personally Identifiable Information” are in full compliance and the City’s values of maximizing trust, integrity and respect for privacy.   City Privacy Policy Link

It is also critically important to secure our systems and networks from unauthorized access, to prevent their use for illegal activities, and to prevent their destruction.

Cyber-Security Governance Team

Over the past decade we have placed increasingly more emphasis on cyber-security measures.  A team of people examine our posture against Internet threats.  The team meets throughout the year to prioritize new measures taken to protect the City’s information systems.

We invest in improvements in cyber-security measures each year to do the best we can do.  Layers of protection are mandatory and common-sense due to the variety of attack types
